History From The Deep -- Nearly 300 years ago, in 1658, the Swedish man-o-war "morning star" caught fire near Oresund, off the Danish coast, and was lost with all hands. This spring a Danish fishing boat came across the wreck of the "morning star". The discovery has led to the salvage of a great deal of interesting equipment. Timber, material from old uniforms, brass canons and the ship's bell have all been brought to the surface. Some of the items have been extraordinarily well preserved. For instance an old food box made out of pinewood and with its owner's initials carved on it is in as good condition as when the "morning star" went down. April 28, 1952.
